I was part of a team responsible for the installation and splicing of fiber optic cables, ensuring high-speed and reliable data transmission for a Morupule Coal Mine's network infrastructure. Implemented industry best practices for cable management and termination, resulting in minimal signal loss and optimal network performance.
Planned the layout of the network cabling, which included cable routing, where to mount trunking, cabinets, and Access Points. Installed and terminated the CAT6 Ethernet cables to surface mount boxes and patch panels using the TIA/EIA 568 B standard which is commonly used in the Morupule coal Mine. Tested and verified the integrity of cables using cable testers. Ensured proper labeling of the cables.
Carried out the integration of a CCTV system with an existing security infrastructure, including the installation of cameras, DVRs, and monitoring software at 4Tech It, Acacia Clinic and other companies around Gaborone. Implemented remote access and monitoring capabilities, enhancing the client's ability to monitor their premises effectively.
Participated in upgrading the cabling system at Morupule Coal Mine Security Office. Moved cabling from a smaller 9U cabinet to a larger cabinet, removed outdated CAT5 cables, and installed new CAT6 cables. Terminated connections to RJ45, surface mount boxes, and patch panels using the TIA/EIA 568B standard. Ensured neat labeling, proper VLAN mapping, and tested cables with testers for full functionality.
Conducted maintenance of elevated water storage tanks for Water Utilities Corporation. Replaced and configured PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and integrated them with Ethernet connections and radio links to connect securely to remote monitoring stations. Installed earthing systems to safeguard equipment from lightning strikes. Troubleshot and resolved issues on tanks that were unable to connect to the secure radio network, ensuring continuous monitoring, control, and reliability of the water distribution system.
Assisted in deploying network monitoring software for Botswana Institute of Bankers and other client organizations. Conducted site assessments, recommended suitable monitoring solutions, and configured the software for seamless integration with existing networks.
